Idaho Power’s Smart Summer Savings Giveaway kicked off this week! Customers are encouraged to share how they stay cool and save energy during the summer months for a chance to win one of 10 smart thermostats. Smart thermostats use an app on your phone to make it easier to adjust your home’s temperature and cooling schedule, which helps reduce cooling costs.

Idaho Power customers can enter now through Aug. 24 at idahopower.com/smartsummer or comment on the contest social media posts on Idaho Power’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Idaho Power also has a few tips to stay cool and manage your energy use during these last few weeks of summer:

• Close doors, windows and blinds during the day or when you’re away, especially on the east and west sides. If safe to do so, open your windows at night or in the morning to let in cooler air.
• Do laundry and run the dishwasher in the early morning and late evening hours to avoid adding heat to your home in the warmest part of the day.
• Turn the A/C off when you’re leaving for an extended period.
• Weather strip doors and windows to prevent losing cool air to the outside.
• Check your A/C’s air handler or furnace filter. Dirty filters reduce a system’s efficiency.
