The Time of Use pricing plan provides Idaho Power customers the opportunity to save a little money on their electricity bill if they shift their highest energy use periods to a different time of day or week. Customers enrolled in Time of Use also help reduce demand on the electrical system during periods of peak energy use.
Customers who switch to this plan monitor and adjust their energy use Monday-Saturday (Sunday and holiday monitoring is not required). By shifting their heaviest electricity use — like laundry or electrical vehicle charging — to off-peak hours, Time of Use customers use less energy during high-demand times of the day, help reduce the demand on the system, pay less for their electricity, and potentially reduce their overall power bill.
If you are interested in switching to the Time of Use plan, it is important to first identify how much energy you currently use and when you are using it:
- If you are using less than 800 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month, the Standard Residential plan may still be your best option.
- If you are using more than 800 kWh per month and can shift your use, the Time of Use plan may work for you. If you enroll in Time of Use and do not shift your energy use, your electricity bill may remain the same or even go up.

**New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. When New Year’s Day, Independence Day, or Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, the Monday immediately following that Sunday will be considered a holiday.
Why Should I Change My Energy Use Habits?
On the Time of Use plan, you may pay less for the electricity you use. The summer off-peak rate is 6.1618 cents per kWh, compared to the on-peak rate of 24.6472 cents per kWh. For shifting your energy consumption from the daytime hours to the late evening and early morning hours — such as using your dishwasher, oven or washing machine — you benefit by paying the lowest rate for electricity.
