If you’re spending Labor Day weekend on the Snake River, Idaho Power has some reminders to help you and your fellow travelers stay safe:
-Stay away from dams. Don’t cross or tie up to buoy lines. These barriers help keep boaters and swimmers safe. Water levels and currents can change quickly near dams and may be stronger than they appear.
-Keep off riverbanks near dams and never climb over protective fences.
-Wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket when boating or swimming. Idaho Power has several life jacket loaner stations with a variety of sizes you can borrow for the day.
-Use caution in or near the water on Brownlee, Hells Canyon, and C.J. Strike reservoirs. The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare has issued water-quality advisories due to high levels of toxic algae.
-Stay alert while driving and watch for utility and construction crews working along roadways. We are still in the 100 Deadliest Days of Driving.
-If you’re camping, remember that campfires are currently prohibited at all Idaho Power parks and campgrounds due to high wildfire danger.
