As harvest season takes center stage, Idaho Power offers these reminders to help farmers and workers stay safe when working outside.
- Before starting work, look up and around for overhead power lines. Assume they are energized and potentially dangerous.
- Stay a safe distance from power lines, as listed on Idaho Power’s website. This includes when operating or moving tall equipment. If you are unsure of a line’s voltage or how far to stay away, call 208-388-2323 for assistance.
- When moving or clearing debris from irrigation pipes, move them horizontally and use a spotter.
- Do not stack anything, such as hay bales or machinery, under power lines.
- Watch for guy wires (the support cables for power poles) when operating machinery.
- If you strike a wire or pole, contact Idaho Power, as it may have weakened the structure or created slack in the line. Call 208-388-2323 or 1-800-488-6151 toll-free.
