Swan Falls Pedestrian Crossing Closed Until October

Starting July 6, the pedestrian walkway across Swan Falls Dam will be closed through Oct. 2, while Idaho Power contractors continue concrete work on the dam’s spillway.

The walkway has remained open on weekends, but the updated closure will cover all days to ensure public safety as crews have moved from the east spillway to the west spillway. Anyone accessing the dam area from the west side of the Snake River is advised to obey all posted signs and to avoid the work zone.

The Swan Falls day-use park, campground, and boat launches remain open. Visitors will still have access to the Swan Falls Powerhouse Museum, which is open for free self-guided tours on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Swan Falls was the first power plant built on the Snake River. The original plant was built in 1901 to supply electricity to nearby mines. Idaho Power acquired the plant in 1916 and upgraded the plant in 1994, increasing the generating capacity to 27,170 kilowatts.
