The State of Idaho has issued a water quality advisory for the Bruneau Arm of C.J. Strike Reservoir due to high levels of toxic algae (also known as cyanobacteria). Advisories are also in place for Brownlee and Hells Canyon reservoirs, as well as several other water bodies across the state.

Anyone recreating in or near the water should use caution, and prevent children, pets, or livestock from coming in contact with water that may be affected. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare offers several tips for recognizing and avoiding these hazardous algae blooms (HAB) on their website. C.J. Strike Reservoir, located 30 miles south of Mountain Home, is one of south-central Idaho’s most popular destinations for boating, fishing, and camping. Directions and information about recreation access and campground reservations can be found at idahopower.com/recreation.

Named after former Idaho Power President C.J. Strike, the hydroelectric plant was completed in 1952. The plant’s three generators have a total generating capacity of 82,800 kilowatts.
