How is Your Energy Dollar Spent?
Breaking down what customers’ base rates pay for.

Idaho Power works hard to keep prices low, and we’re proud to offer energy prices 20% to 30% lower than the national average. Here’s a look at what those rates pay for:
- About 60% of your bill pays for generating the electricity you use — the actual cost of using water, gas, or sunlight to generate reliable energy at a power plant.
- About 40% covers the costs to safely deliver energy to your home, as well as the people and services that keep you connected, billed, and supported.
An average residential customer in Idaho pays about $3.93 a day for electricity. That’s less than $4 a day for air conditioning, keeping the fridge cold, watching your favorite show, and powering all your devices.
Idaho Power’s rates are regulated by Idaho and Oregon’s public utilities commissions, which determine what prices are fair. Idaho Power does not change rates without review and approval by our regulators.
