General Information
Adding energy-efficient features to your multifamily project pays cash incentives. The less your business pays for electricity, the more money you’ll have to spend on other necessities or to add to your bottom line. Additionally, if your residents pay less for electricity, they are more likely to choose your living units over others. With the Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program, there’s no better time to add energy-saving features to your new or existing multifamily project.
We are committed to offering services and information to our customers to help them use energy wisely. Efficiency programs are designed to avoid or delay the need for new resources.
Idaho Power’s energy efficiency programs are funded through the energy efficiency rider funding collected monthly from customers as approved by the Idaho Public Utilities Commission and the Public Utility Commission of Oregon.
Customer Eligibility/Qualifications
Eligible projects are multifamily buildings with five or more attached individual dwelling units per building. This program includes new construction, major renovation and retrofit options for dwelling units and common areas. Equipment purchased before Nov. 1, 2023 for the multifamily dwelling units are not eligible for an incentive.
Multifamily buildings with four or fewer attached individual dwelling units per building do not qualify for this program, but may qualify for our residential offerings. Visit idahopower.com/save to learn more.
The Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program includes the dwelling units and common commercial spaces often seen in multifamily complexes in one program. Incentives are offered for efficient lighting, HVAC, building shell, appliances and equipment. Any project can earn incentives for as many, or as few, energy-saving measures as you choose to install. This program also includes both new construction, major renovation and retrofit options.
Application Process
Talk to your team of design professionals about the energy-saving options that will work best for your project. You can learn more, and acquire a project number by submitting a preliminary Multifamily Application (available under the Application and Steps to Participate tab of the Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program web page) to multifamily@idahopower.com.
The preliminary application must be submitted before the project is complete. We recommend submitting the preliminary application early in the design or planning phase, as it is a great opportunity to create a dialogue between Idaho Power and the design and/or contractor team. This helps ensure all parties are familiar with the program offerings and requirements.
The final application and supporting documentation must be submitted within 90 days after the project is complete. Project completion is defined as the time an occupancy permit is attained or when all major construction is complete.
Design performance details (cut sheets) and equipment cost invoices for each measure are required.
COMcheck™ is required for the L1 Interior Light Load Reduction and L2 Exterior Light Load Reduction incentive measures for new construction/major renovations projects. A lighting tool and separate application will need to be completed for retrofits projects for lighting upgrades in existing common areas that are commercial spaces. Visit idahopower.com/retrofits for more information.
Payment Information
Incentives are awarded on a per-project basis to assist in offsetting capital expenses for more efficient lighting, HVAC, and building shell measures. There is no incentive cap.
Idaho Power will provide you with a check after the work is completed and your final application for incentive payment is reviewed and approved. Idaho Power reserves the right to request additional details and/or inspect any project before issuing the incentive payment.
A Professional Assistance Incentive is available to the third-party architect or engineer working on the project who supports the participant with the technical aspects of the project and the required supporting documentation necessary to complete the incentive process. The professional is eligible for an incentive equal to 20% of the participant’s total incentive up to a maximum of $5,000 per project. This incentive is in addition to the owner/customers’ incentive.
