Idaho Power recently added more than 70,000 rainbow trout to popular fishing spots in the middle Snake River for the benefit of anglers, with more planned for American Falls Reservoir in November.
“Fall weather in Southern Idaho can be great for fishing, and it’s a good time to get out with the family and enjoy a fun outdoor activity,” said Travis Long, Hatchery Facilities Coordinator for Idaho Power.
About 19,000 trout were released at the Bell Rapids sportsman’s access, and 52,000 were stocked at C.J. Strike Reservoir south of Mountain Home. The fish are about a foot long and are raised at hatcheries in the Hagerman Valley.
Idaho Power’s twice-annual stocking events are part of the company’s commitment to providing recreational opportunities for the public as part of its federal license to operate hydroelectric power plants on the Snake River.
Anglers should note that the Cottonwood Campground and boat access at C.J. Strike remains closed until Nov. 1 during installation of new docks. However, access is available at North Park and Loveridge Bridge. (Visit Idaho Power’s website for a list of C.J. Strike locations.)
