If you’re trying to stay cool during this hot summer weather by visiting one of the many reservoirs or waterways near Idaho Power dams along the Snake River, keep these safety tips in mind.
- Check local water and weather advisories before leaving.
- Wear a life jacket. Even experienced swimmers can be surprised by unexpected changes in water flows. Idaho Power has several stations along the Snake River where you can borrow life jackets for the day.
- Don’t wade, swim, fish, or anchor your boat directly upstream or downstream from a dam. Normal power plant operations can cause unexpected and rapid water changes.
- Keep your distance. Don’t cross buoy lines or cables; they are intended to keep visitors at a safe distance. And please keep off riverbanks next to dams.
