During National Agriculture Week, Idaho Power reminds farmers and ag employees to stay safe when working outdoors. When working in the fields this spring or with heavy equipment around power lines, keep these safety tips in mind to avoid injuries and prevent costly, time-consuming damage.
- If you practice prescribed burning of ditch banks or pastures, plan to burn a safe distance from power poles and other electrical equipment.
- Stay aware of overhead lines when moving tall equipment or clearing debris from irrigation pipes. Use a spotter, and move equipment horizontally.
- Assume all power lines are energized and dangerous, and never stack anything like hay bales or other items under power lines.
- Adjust your irrigation systems to avoid spraying overhead lines.
- Stay clear of downed power lines, and call Idaho Power immediately at 1-800-488-6151.
- Operate equipment a safe distance from power lines — at least 10 feet for lower voltage lines.
If you’re unsure of a line’s voltage, or for other safety assistance around power lines, call Idaho Power at 208-388-2323 or 1-800-488-6151 outside the Treasure Valley.
