Spring into Fishing! Idaho Power Stocks C.J. Strike Reservoir with Rainbow Trout

Idaho Power tankers are adding 50,000 rainbow trout to C.J. Strike Reservoir this week to help kickstart the spring fishing season.
Stocking began on Monday, with fish being added to the reservoir at the Cottonwood and Jack’s Creek boat launch sites. These Idaho-grown trout are 10-12 inches long — perfect for the frying pan.

C.J. Strike Reservoir, about 30 miles south of Mountain Home, has several campgrounds as well as day-use access. Anglers can fish from boats or the bank. Visitors planning to stay overnight should reserve a spot online at idahopower.com/camping. Cash payments at the campgrounds are not accepted. Water at the campgrounds has been turned on for the season.

Idaho Power adds rainbow trout to the Snake River twice each year. The program is part of the company’s commitment to providing recreational opportunities for customers as part of its federal license to operate hydroelectric facilities on the Snake River. The C.J. Strike power plant was completed in 1952. It has three generators with a total capacity of 82,800 kilowatts — enough to power more than 63,000 average-sized homes.
