This Privacy Policy describes how Idaho Power Company (“Idaho Power,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about you on www.idahopower.com, all other websites owned and operated by Idaho Power, including mobile websites, and Idaho Power’s mobile applications (collectively, “Site”) and how we provide our services, and the choices we offer you regarding your information.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not consent and agree with the terms of this privacy policy, you cannot, and we do not authorize you to, access, browse, or use the site.

If you are a resident of California, please also read our Privacy Notice for California Residents, which is incorporated in this Privacy Policy by this reference.

What kind of information does Idaho Power collect from site visitors?

When you visit the Idaho Power Site, Idaho Power may collect the following types of information:

  • Statistical and usage information — Idaho Power receives and stores certain types of information when you interact with Idaho Power’s Site to monitor proper functionality, determine areas of continuous improvement, and to support Site analytics and marketing and customer service efforts. This is aggregated information and may include information on items such as: how many visitors come to the Site, how they navigate through the Site, which browsers they use, pages visited, IP address, etc. To collect this information, we use tracking technologies such as cookies, web beacons, analytics services, and other tracking technologies (collectively, “Tracking Tools”) (as described below).
  • Information you provide directly to us — When you directly submit personally identifiable information in online forms, registration forms, and surveys, or when you register on the Site to access your Idaho Power account information, Idaho Power may use that information to help Idaho Power identify you, authenticate you, provide services to you, and seek to provide you better service in the future. Examples of personally identifiable information, including sensitive information, that you may provide directly to us on our Site include your name, mailing or service address, telephone number, email address, account number, bank account or credit card numbers, Social Security Number and driver’s license number.
  • Information we obtain from other sources — We may also obtain information about you from other sources, such as from a credit check performed when you apply for certain Idaho Power services.
  • Information we collect automatically — In order to access and use certain areas or features of the Site, you consent to our collection and use of certain information about your use of the Site through the use of Tracking Tools or by other passive means, including when you receive, open, engage, forward, and/or click through the Site. Your consent to our access and use of this “passively collected” information includes, but is not limited to, information about the devices you use to access the internet (e.g., the IP address and the type of the device, operating system and browser); dates, times and duration of visits to the Site (including whether you are a repeat or first time visitor); and information associated with actions taken on the Site, such as page views and areas of the Site navigated to (collectively, “Traffic Data”).
  • Additionally, when you access the Site using a mobile device, including via our mobile application, we may collect and process real-time information about the location of your device. If you initially permit the collection of this precise location information from your mobile device per the permission system used by your mobile operating system, you can later disable it by changing the location settings on your mobile device. Disabling the collection of precise location may limit your ability to use certain features of our Site on your mobile device. Additionally, disabling the collection of precise location from your mobile device will not limit our ability to infer your approximate location from your IP address.

Note that you may be able to sign into your account on our mobile application using the features native to your mobile device that use touch and face verification to authenticate you. While Idaho Power is notified by your device whether authentication is successful, any face or fingerprint authentication information is stored and processed by your mobile operating system provider, and Idaho Power does not have access to this information.

How does Idaho Power use the information it collects?

For example, we may use your information to fulfill your requests for products and services and communicate with you about those requests; help you quickly find and/or receive information about Idaho Power or one of its affiliated companies; register and service your account; make electronic payments on your account; administer surveys; provide customer service; improve the content of our Site; operate, evaluate, and improve the products and services we offer; alert you to updated information and services; protect the security or integrity of our Site and our business; enforce our Terms and Conditions and other agreements with you; comply with applicable legal requirements and industry standards; and answer your questions; and carry out any other purpose described to you at the time the information was collected.

Idaho Power may share personally identifiable information you provide to us in the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this policy:

  • Making the information available to third parties who are providing a product, service, or information that you have requested;

  • When Idaho Power believes that disclosure of the information is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding any illegal activities, interference with the operation of our Site, application or enforcement of our Terms and Conditions and other agreements with you or protection of the rights, property, or safety of Idaho Power, users of the Site, or others;
  • When we are required to do so by federal or state law, subpoena, or court order, at the request of state or federal regulatory agencies or commissions, or as we believe is legally appropriate or necessary (for example, with lawyers and other professional advisors where necessary to obtain advice or otherwise protect and manage our business interests); and
  • In connection with or during negotiation of any merger, sale or transfer of company assets, financing, reorganization or restructuring.

Importantly, we do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We may also combine the information we collect with publicly available information and with that of other users of the Site. For example, we may use your and other users’ non-identifiable, aggregated data to improve the services we offer, for statistical analysis, and for other business purposes. We reserve the right to use and share any aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

We also may use the information we obtain about you in other ways for which we provide specific notice at the time of collection.

Data obtained through the short code program (see the Terms and Conditions page) will not be shared with any third-parties for their marketing reasons/purposes. If you do not wish to receive email communication from Idaho Power, please Contact Us to request removal from Idaho Power’s electronic mailing lists or follow the unsubscribe instructions contained in each text or email. Otherwise, we will presume text and email are an acceptable and effective means of communicating with you. Please note that you may not opt-out of certain forms of service-related communications.

Tracking Technologies

We and those that perform work for us may use Tracking Tool, such as cookies, to collect information about you.

Cookies. “Cookies” are small computer files transferred to your device that contain information such as user ID, user preferences, lists of pages visited and activities conducted while using the Site. We use Cookies to: (i) improve and tailor the Site, (ii) customize advertisements, (iii) measure performance, (iv) store authentication so re-entering credentials is not required, (v) customize user experiences, and for (vi) analytics and fraud prevention. For more information on Cookies, including how to control your Cookie settings and preferences, visit http://www.allaboutCookies.org. You can also manage Cookies in your web browser (for example, Edge, Explorer, Chrome, Safari). If you choose to change your settings, you may find that certain functions or features of the Site will not work as intended. The following details the types of Cookies we use and why we use them:

  • Absolutely Necessary Cookies. These Cookies are essential to enable you to move around a website and use its features. Without these Cookies, services you have asked for, like adding items to an online order, cannot be provided.
  • Performance Cookies. These Cookies collect information about how you use the Site. Information collected includes, the Internet browsers and operating systems used, the domain name of the website previously visited, the number of visits, average duration of visit, and pages viewed. These Cookies do not collect information that personally identifies you and only collect aggregated and anonymous information. Performance Cookies are used to improve the user-friendliness of a website and enhance your experience.
  • Functionality Cookies. These Cookies allow the Site to remember choices you make (such as your username, language preference, or the area or region you are in) and provide enhanced, more personal features. These Cookies can also be used to remember changes you have made to text size, fonts, and other customizable parts of the Site. The information these Cookies collect may be anonymized, and they cannot track your browsing activity on other websites.
  • Web Beacons: “Web Beacons” (a.k.a. clear GIFs or pixel tags) are tiny graphic image files embedded in a web page or email that may be used to collect information about the use of the Site. The information collected by Web Beacons allows us to analyze how many people are using the Site, using selected publishers’ websites, or opening emails, and for what purpose.
  • Web Service Analytics:  We may use third-party analytics services in connection with the Site, including, for example, to register mouse clicks, mouse movements, scrolling activity and text typed into the Site. We use the information collected from these services to help make the Site easier to use and as otherwise set forth in Section 5 (How We Use Your Information). These analytics services generally do not collect personal information unless you voluntarily provide it.
  • Mobile Device Identifiers:  As with other Tracking Tools, mobile device identifiers help Idaho Power learn more about our users’ demographics and Internet behaviors in order to personalize and improve the Site. Mobile device identifiers are data stored on mobile devices that may track activities occurring on and through it, as well as the applications installed on it.  Mobile device identifiers enable collection of personal information (such as media access control, address, and location) and Traffic Data.

Options for Opting out of Cookies and Mobile Device Identifiers

  • You may be able to reject Cookies and/or mobile device identifiers by activating the appropriate setting on your browser or device. Although you are not required to accept Idaho Power’s Cookies or mobile device identifiers, if you block or reject them, you may not have access to all features available through the Site.
  • You may opt out of receiving certain Cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) opt out page or the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) opt out page, or by installing the DAA’s AppChoices app (for iOS; for Android) on your mobile device. When you use these opt-out features, an “opt-out” Cookie will be placed on your device indicating that you do not want to receive interest-based advertising from NAI or DAA member companies. If you delete Cookies on your device, you may need to opt out again. For information about how to opt out of interest-based advertising on mobile devices, please visit https://thenai.org/opt-out/mobile-opt-out/. You will need to opt out of each browser and device for which you desire to apply these opt-out features.
  • Even after opting out of Behavioral Advertising, you may still see advertisements that are not interest-based (i.e., not targeted toward you). Also, opting out does not mean that Idaho Power is no longer using Tracking Tools. Idaho Power still may collect information about your use of the Site even after you have opted out of Behavioral Advertising and may still serve advertisements to you via the Site based on information it collects through the Site.

This Privacy Policy does not cover the use of Cookies and other Tracking Tools by any third parties, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third party. Please be aware that some third-party Cookies can continue to track your activities online even after you have left the Site.

“Do Not Track” (DNT) and Universal Opt-Out Preference Signals

Some web browsers (including Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome) incorporate a “Do Not Track” (DNT) or similar feature that signals to web services that a visitor does not want to have their online activity and behavior tracked. If a web service operator elects to respond to a particular DNT signal, the web service operator may refrain from collecting certain personal information about the browser’s user. Not all browsers offer a DNT option and there is currently no industry consensus as to what constitutes a DNT signal. For these reasons, many web service operators, including Idaho Power, do not proactively respond to DNT signals. For more information about DNT signals, visit http://allaboutdnt.com.

New standards are being developed for a Universal Opt-Out Mechanism, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC), which allow users with GPC-enabled browsers and devices to send a signal that will communicate the user’s request to opt-out of sales of their personal information and to opt-out of certain sharing of their personal information. The CPRA and other laws allow for the acceptance of Opt-Out Preference Signals such as the GPC, as an option for users to transmit an Opt-Out of selling/sharing personal information. If we detect and recognize such a signal from your device or browser, we will honor it.
