Time of Use Plan: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Time Of Use plan?

Time of Use is a voluntary plan for Idaho customers where participants pay different prices for electricity depending on what time of day it’s used: On-Peak time is the most expensive. Mid-Peak is mid-range. Off-Peak is least expensive. Prices are higher in the summer months (June-September) and lower in the non-summer months (October-May).

The Time of Use periods for this plan are:

Summer (June-September)

  • On-Peak: 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Saturday, except holidays
  • Mid-Peak: 3 p.m.-7p.m. Monday-Saturday (except holidays)
  • Off-Peak: 11 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and all hours Sunday and holidays.

Non-Summer (October-May)

Off-Peak: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday-Saturday, and all hours Sunday and holidays

On-Peak: 6a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, except holidays.

How much will I pay?

It is important to identify how much energy you are currently using and when you are using it. If you are using less than 800 kWh per month, the Standard Residential plan may be your best option.

If you are using more than 800 kWh per month and can shift your use, the Time of Use plan may be your best option. To see an estimate of your bill under the Time of Use plan, log in to My Account or register to become a My Account user and go to Payments & Billing > Overview > Compare Your Bills and click Compare Rates near the top of the page.”

What type of customer would benefit from this plan?

Typically, Idaho customers who are using at least 800 kWh of energy per month and are willing and able to shift their energy use to Off-Peak hours may reduce their electricity bills. Customers who currently do not use much electricity during the Peak periods also may benefit from this plan.
