Energy use is reaching record highs in Idaho Power’s service area as more people and businesses move here. Idaho Power has a responsibility to meet all our customers’ needs, and batteries are helping us do that.
We’re investing in batteries to continue serving customers reliably and affordably. Batteries charge during hours when energy use is low, like summer mornings. We can then use them to meet our customers’ needs when energy use peaks, like summer afternoons and evenings.
Batteries help us maximize our significant hydro resources and incorporate wind, solar, and other types of clean energy. Wind and solar energy have become more plentiful and affordable, especially in the West. Batteries help us use that energy even when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing.
Batteries at Amity and Holcomb roads will provide enough power for up to 100,000 homes during peak demand.
