OXBOW, Oregon – The road over Hells Canyon Dam will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 8:30 a.m. MT to 2 p.m. MT. No vehicles will be able to cross during that time.

A large crane will be on top of the dam blocking the road. The closure is necessary to enable Idaho Power crews to safely perform routine vegetation removal from the face of the dam. Pedestrians will be allowed to cross.

Located 21 miles downstream of Oxbow Dam, Hells Canyon Dam is the third and last project in the Hells Canyon Complex. It began generating electricity in 1967 and can generate up to 391,500 kilowatts, making it Idaho Power’s second-largest hydropower facility.
