Keep these safety tips in mind if you plan to stay cool this summer by visiting one of the many reservoirs or waterways near Idaho Power dams along the Snake River.
- Check local water and weather advisories before leaving.
- Wear a lifejacket. Even experienced swimmers can be surprised by unexpected changes in water flows. Idaho Power has several stations along the Snake River where you can borrow life jackets for the day.
- Don’t wade, swim, fish, or anchor your boat directly upstream or downstream from a dam. Normal power plant operations can cause unexpected and rapid water changes. Buoy lines and cables are there to keep you at a safe distance — don’t go past them.
- Keep off riverbanks next to dams.
