Video: Raising Salmon at Pahsimeroi Fish Hatchery

Each year, Idaho Power fish hatcheries produce more than six million salmon and steelhead for release into the Snake River and its tributaries.

A new YouTube video takes you inside the Pahsimeroi Hatchery near Challis where the Idaho Department of Fish and Game raises about a million Chinook each year. These fish will travel more than 800 miles to the Pacific Ocean after they are released into the Pahsimeroi River.

Idaho Power also has hatcheries at Niagara Springs, south of Wendell, Idaho; Rapid River near Riggins, Idaho; and at Oxbow, Oregon.

The hatchery program is part of the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and helps to fulfill requirements under its federal licenses to operate hydroelectric projects on the Snake River. For more information about Idaho Power’s hatchery program, visit idahopower.com/fish.
