Next Sunday is National 8/11 Day. That’s August 11, but it’s also a reminder to call 811 before you dig. Idaho Power encourages customers to dial 811 to help stay safe and prevent costly repairs you can incur if you dig into a utility line. The electric company says many utility lines, including power lines, are buried underground in yards and neighborhoods.
Calling 811 provides a free service in which utilities come out and mark the lines buried in the area you want to dig. You should call 811 at least two business days before digging to allow time for the lines to be marked. Even if your project is small or just a few inches below ground, it’s still recommended that you call 811 beforehand.
Idaho Power also asks customers to be mindful of power lines and other electrical equipment when planting trees or landscaping. Plan for tree growth, and keep at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines at all times
