Idaho Power Offers Tips for National Electrical Safety Month

May is National Electrical Safety Month, so it’s a good time to freshen up on some home safety tips courtesy of Idaho Power.

  • Check the cords around your house. If they are broken, frayed or damaged, replace them as soon as possible.
  • Use Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) approved appliances. The UL seal ensures the product has been tested.
  • For appliances that must be grounded, use extension cords with three prongs.
Place safety covers on outlets if you have small children, and never let children play with outlets or power cords.
  • Keep electric appliances away from water.
